In the Ohio Valley, there is only one blackened death thrash band you should be worried about to melt your faces off. Disobey is that band!

I was lucky enough to see these guys rock out at Metal for Mutts in 2017. They put on such an incredible show and they gained a new fan that day. I was honored to have been able to interview them, and this is how it went.

"What exactly does your name mean?"

"It means we play by our own rules. We do what we want, when we want."

To be honest, I absolutely love their meaning behind the name. It's raw and straight to the point and let me tell you, these guys have every reason to be cocky. Disobey's music pounds and they have some of the best stage presence I have ever seen. You normally don't expect bands to look like headliners when they're a local band and they nail it.

"What are your biggest musical influences?"

"Our biggest influences range from 80's pop to all genres of metal."

Churchburner had also said that his personal influences as being a lead singer are; Axl Rose, Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Glenn Danzig and Freddie Mercury.

Churchburner and Thompson have know each other over 20 years and have been in previous bands together. Beemoe has also been in a few bands with Churchburner and lucky for us, they admired his stage presence so they of course decided to have him a part of this! Tim previously played for a killer black metal band named 'Baal' and they did a few shows with Churchburner and Thompson before Disobey became. Poof had briefly worked with Churchburner and they knew a lot of the same people and decided to start this band together!

Luckily in 2007, Disobey was born and has been creating musical candy for our earholes since!

I had asked them what their writing process is. They told me that it's no different than most other bands. Generally it starts out with the guitar riffs and the band hammers it out until it's structured and makes sense.

I absolutely love the bond that these guys have and how much trust they have in each other. Everyone in the band contributes riffs and ideas and they just go with it.

I ask the goofy questions in every single interview that way the fans can get to know the band. This is normally the funniest part of the whole interview.

"What's your favorite liquor and why?"

"Vodka, because it's fun!"

(Fair enough, I'll accept)

"Where's the weirdest place you've unintentionally thrown up? Intentionally thrown up?"

"I've thrown up outside of a Big Lots! I've never intentionally thrown up anywhere though.", Churchburner.

"How many times a week do you hurt yourself trying to dance in the shower?"

"I don't dance but I do sing my ass off!"

"Who do you guys think would win in a battle between Batman and Spider-Man?"

"BATMAN!"

After the goofy questions were over, I had asked Disobey what their plans were as a band for the rest of 2017. They are going to be taking a few months off to finish writing their fourth album and then possibly play 3-4 more shows before the year ends, then start the recording process in the winter of 2017.

If you can get out to one of their shows I can promise you, you will not be disappointed. They truly show you when they're up on stage how much love and hard work they put into their music.

I'm so happy I got to know the guys of Disobey a little more and actually know their backstory now.

Everyone has a story, could yours be next?

Thank you Disobey and thank you so much to Matthias for coming to my birthday show! I look forward to rocking my new Disobey merch around so people can ask who you guys are and I can tell them all this cool stuff!
