Making people laugh and making ear holes happy, Durandal is an up and coming band with a hell of a lot to offer. Coming out swingin' all the way from St. Clairsville, Ohio, this incredible group of guys will most definitely be making a name for themselves. I'm so happy I had a chance to interview them and get to know all of them on a more personal level.

Our interview consisted of a lot of laughs, but as goofy as they are, they're just as serious. I was able to ask them multiple questions, mostly serious, and then a few goofy ones. Here's what I found out.
How did Durandal actually become a band and what does the name truly mean?
Tyler and Tyson had met somewhere between 2008-09 and previously had a band together. Lucky for us, they got back together in January 2017, and they've been going ever since. With the help of two other local musicians; Jeremy Wright (Resistance 13) and Rocky Zimmerman they were able to find the last missing pieces of their band. Aarron and Jay were then introduced. At the time they were a 5-piece band and unfortunately, their lead singer had to leave for personal reasons. Being the hard working guys that they are, they didn't let it stop them. They put their heads together and worked it out being a 4-piece with Tyler now on vocals.
The name Durandal actually came from a sword in Final Fantasy and it stands for "endure". Everybody in the band is kind of a nerd so they felt is was quite fitting, which I personally loved. They decided when picking a name that they wanted to be original, unique, and not a stereotypical name considering their genre of music. A lot of the time the bands in their genre have immortal or church burning names. (They were totally kidding) They decided to be different from the rest which I can agree, they totally are.
A few bands that they have a similar sound to are Senses Fail, Silverstein, and The Used. So if you like those bands, go give them a like and listen on Facebook, They will not let you down.
I had also asked one of the most important questions in my opinion, what advice would you give to someone trying to form a band? I feel like a lot of people trying to form a band get super discouraged and Durandal gave some of the best advice I could've ever heard.
"Do what you love. Play with as many people as you can. Surround yourself with musicians that are better than you because in time, it will help make you better. Be open to something you've never played before. Don't get discouraged and don't take it too seriously. Push and never give up."
Durnadal's plans for the future is to push as hard as they and continue having fun playing. I asked if their were any albums in the near future and their response was only time will tell. I have a good feeling though that they will be surprising us with something soon.
Ready for the funniest part of this interview? If you are eating or drinking, please swallow it and move away from it. These are the reasons the title is, what it is.
"Tyler, who is your favorite Spice Girl?"
""Scary Spice."
"Why?"
"The way she walks, the way she talks and the way she moves them hips. I'm afraid I'd lose a nut inside of her."
I didn't think it could get any better than that as I'm laughing hysterically, Jay decides to answer his question. This is where the Cheez-It got choked on.
"Jay, what's one song you can NOT have sex too?"
As I open his message I see a YouTube clip of The Sound of Music.
His answer, "Because f*ck Julie Andrews and f*ck The Sound of music."
I'm still laughing because of this.
"Tyson, what's the weirdest thing you've ever seen in someone else's home?"
"Um, God. I don't know if I ever had that encounter before. I'm really weird and didn't think something was weird that really was...or I don't know, weird people I guess...I'd go with the first assumption."
Whatever that means, Tyson, just know we love you!
Last but not least, Aarron.
"Aarron, if you could sit under the table and listen to two people talk, who would it be and why?"
"I have two answers to that. One is musical and the other is because of the enjoyment I would get out of the conversation. I would love to see the author, Terry Goodkind talk with Joel Olsteen. Terry is a rationalist objectivist and Joel runs a mega church. I can just imagine the steam coming from Joel's head while Terry systematically deconstructs everything Joel stands up for and believes in. My musical eavesdrop would be Eddie Van Halen and John Petrucci, simply because they are my two favorite guitarists ever."
I had so much fun interviewing these guys and I could go on forever and a day talking about them.
Don't forget to go check them out!
As for now, keep rockin'!
